Work First Program

Program Summary

The Cleveland Construction Work First Program is designed to introduce career technical school students to the fundamentals of field operations in commercial construction. This program provides hands-on experience, industry exposure, mentoring, training & development for field operations and further education in construction management.

Program Objectives

• Develop a foundational understanding of field operations in commercial construction including safety and quality compliance.
• Introduction to various construction technology platforms.
• Introduce students to various career paths within the commercial construction industry.
• Foster teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills that are essential for job site success.
• Reward hard work, dependability and passion for construction.

Target Audience

Graduates of Auburn Career Center, Excel TECC, Lakeshore Compact, or enrolled in Lakeland Community College construction courses who are interested in construction or technical careers.

Program Structure

Duration: 5 years

Learning: Participate in Training, Development & mentoring Programs, Onsite CCI projects assisting Superintendent duties, laborer tasks, Buck Hoist operations, Project Clerk duties, Onsite Safety, Logistics, Schedule management, Project Documentation, Office and field all hands meetings, First Aid/CPR training, Toolbox Talks, and more.Schooling: Supports the ability to continue college courses. Cleveland Construction will fund tuition for college courses after 1 year.
