Cleveland Construction, Inc. was the construction manager for a new 22-story, 200,000 SF tower consisting of a dual-branded hotel with a combined 300 rooms, a rooftop bar, a penthouse "super suite", and retail lease space.

The project, named the AC Hotel and Residence Inn Charlotte City Center, included the construction of a 184-room AC Hotel and 116-suite Residence Inn.  This post-tension concrete structure was constructed on a 5-story podium above the EpiCentre, an active lifestyle center in uptown Charlotte. 

Originally, the podium was constructed to support a future 50-story condominium tower.  Massive transfer beams were cast above the 8th level that serve as a “foundation in the sky” to support a reconfigured column grid to make the building’s layout more efficient for the dual-branded hotel. 

The AC Hotel features 184 rooms on levels 5-12 of the tower, including some rooms with outdoor terraces overlooking uptown Charlotte and the EpiCentre’s plaza.  It also features an AC Lounge and 2,400 SF of meeting space that opens to the outdoors. 

Levels 14-21 of the tower feature a Residence Inn with 116 apartment-style rooms with a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom suites that include full kitchens.  The Residence Inn lobby is located on level 14 and includes guest check-in, dining and food prep areas, and administration offices.

Level 22 features an independent rooftop bar and lounge and an adjacent penthouse “super suite” for rent.  The penthouse suite boasts two bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen and generous space for entertaining which opens to the outside creating a balcony with views of the city skyline.

The project also included build-out, street-level retail units and the entrances for both hotels within the active EpiCentre lifestyle center.
