Redevelopment Starts on Charlotte's Historic Johnston Building

Cleveland Construction's Charlotte-based construction management team has officially begun construction on the historic adaptive reuse of the Johnston Building in Uptown Charlotte. The scope of work includes converting the building from office space into The Beckworth Hotel, a 240-key boutique hotel.

Originally constructed in 1924, the Johnston Building was once the tallest building in Charlotte, standing as a landmark of the city’s early growth. The 17-story, 200,000-square-foot structure, featuring a terracotta and brick veneer exterior with a steel and concrete frame, is being restored and reimagined to preserve its historic integrity while being redeveloped for hospitality use.

Once complete, The Beckworth Hotel will offer luxury accommodations, including 240 guest rooms, a ground-floor restaurant and coffee shop, a 10,000-square-foot meeting space, a 3,500-square-foot ballroom with expansive views of Uptown Charlotte.
