Retail Construction
Kroger Marketplace Construction Profile
Cleveland Construction successfully managed the construction of a new Kroger Marketplace in Holland, Ohio, transforming a vacant former Farmer Jack’s grocery store and portions of the existing strip center into a 124,000-square-foot retail space.
The project required extensive site work, including major utility relocations while maintaining services to surrounding businesses, as well as new concrete and asphalt paving, perimeter fencing, and landscaping.
Inside, the new Marketplace features expanded departments, including fresh produce, seafood, Murray’s Cheese Shop, ready-made meals, a full-service pharmacy with drive-up access, The Little Clinic, Fred Meyer Jewelry, and a variety of household goods and apparel.
Cleveland Construction also managed the installation of a CO2-based refrigeration system designed to reduce Kroger’s carbon footprint and lower energy usage by 20%.
Despite mid-project design changes—including the addition of The Little Clinic and extensive lighting and décor updates—along with a six-week weather delay due to extreme winter conditions, Cleveland Construction accelerated the schedule and recovered three weeks, ensuring a smooth project completion.
