Kroger Marketplace Construction Profile
Cleveland Construction managed the construction of the new Kroger Marketplace #N-907 \prototype located in Holland, Ohio.
The project consisted of demolishing a vacant former Farmer Jack’s grocery store and portions of the existing strip center within the Orchard Centre Merchants Shopping Center to build the new 124,000 SF CMU retail building.
Site work included major utility relocations while maintaining strip center services, concrete and asphalt pavement, perimeter fencing, and landscaping.
The new Kroger Marketplace features areas for meat and deli, sushi and seafood, produce, fresh and frozen foods, Murray's Cheese Shop, ready-made and prepared meals, and wine and liquor; a pharmacy with drive-up service; The Little Clinic; and Fred Meyer Jewelry, adult and baby apparel, furniture, and other miscellaneous merchandise.
Additionally, Cleveland Construction managed the installation of a next-generation, nontoxic, CO2-based grocery refrigeration system. The system, which was installed to reduce the store's overall carbon footprint and promote sustainability, has the potential to save Kroger 20% on energy usage.
Cleveland Construction overcame project challenges with major changes in prototypical design during construction, including the addition of The Little Clinic and extensive lighting and decor changes. Also, due to an extreme winter, the project initially lost six weeks; however, through an accelerated schedule and well organized work site, Cleveland Construction was able to recover three of those weeks while incorporating the design changes for a smooth and seamless completion.
