Project Overview

Interior Trades Contractor for the Renovation and Expansion of the Lexington Center

Cleveland Construction, Inc. performed as the interior and exterior trades contractor under Messer Construction for the renovation and expansion of the Lexington Convention Center and Rupp Arena (collectively referred to as Lexington Center) in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.

The expanded Lexington Convention Center featured 100,000 SF of exhibition space, 29,000 SF of meeting space, a 24,330 SF ballroom, and 44,000 SF of club and flexible spaces.

Improvements to Rupp Arena included a 44,000 SF expansion of the main concourse to improve crowd circulation, new chair-back upper-level seating, a structural deck overlay to enhance sight-lines, and a new wedge-shaped metal and glass exterior façade around the expanded concourse.

Cleveland Construction self-performed the installation of exterior trades, including glass fiber reinforced concrete panels, exterior cold-formed metal framing, exterior sheathing, exterior insulated finish systems, and weather barriers. The interior scope included metal stud framing and drywall, acoustical panel ceilings, metal panel ceilings, linear wood ceilings, suspended decorative wood grids, stretch fabric wall systems, and sound-absorbing ceiling baffles.

The renovation and expansion were completed in phases to keep both the Lexington Convention Center and Rupp Arena operational during construction.
